Excellent value HDTV
Pros
Cost, reliability, picture quality, nice remote decent SDTV pic.
Cons
heavy, some picture tweaking is needed
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
hard to beat for the price! Definitely give this set a close look before spending extra on the comparible sony.
I purchased this TV at circuit city last November.
Ironically, it was sitting right next to the Sony 34" I had also been considering. I found that the panasonic had as good a pic as the sony for $400 less! Feature wise, they were essentially identical.
After getting the TV home - and it is heavy (200 lbs!),
I plugged it in, and found that the TV did require some adjusting of color/contact. The out of the box settings seemed to push the color red, and seemed alittle dark.
Once set though, the picture is beautiful!
Understand too, that the TV doesn't have an internal HDTV decoder. Being that I get my HDTV through my cable company, this is not a big deal because you need to use their cable box for HDTV anyhow. If you decide to go with satellite service, the internal HDTV decoder might be of some interest to you.
The lighted remote control is nicely designed. All features can be done via the remote as well as the directly on the TV. This is nice. So many of the new TVs only have controls from the remote - which can be problematic when the TV gets older and your remote dies.
Standard definition TV is good as well. Any irregularity in graininess has more to do with the broadcast than the TV itself.
DVDs & playstion 2 are very nice on this set.
HDTV is drop dead beautiful.
TV has built in surround sound with all the controls for bass & treble. Its effective - but naturally, a dedicated surround system is better.
I would definitely pic up this set again given the choice all over.
