Panasonic Tau Kwan Do-Do
Pros
Awesome clarity, good sound, vivid colors
Cons
Heavy, bulky, cheap remote
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Yes and no. Please read above.
I wanted to write a review for this television when I first got it which was back in the summer of 2004. I compared this to a Sony model of similar size and price along with a Samsung. Out of the three that were displayed I fell in love with this model as the clarity and color beat the others hands down. Along with this model I got a cheap but decent home theater system by Panasonic also, the SAHT920. Since the remote that came with the televisions was cheap and flimsy I stuck with the remote that came with the home theater system.
Let me tell you about the cons first:
Unfortunately with Comcast cable many shows are displayed in 4:3 aspect ratio while others (the HD channels) are displayed in the 16:9 aspect ratio. Because of this I find myself switching many times (as most guys switch channels all the time) between setting the aspect ratio on the remote to fit the television which is more of an annoyance on Comcast's part.
The other major problem I have is that it is really heavy and bulky. It is not easy to move around and you'll need at least two good sized people to move it around.
The pros:
As stated before the Panasonic CT-34WX54 was compared to a Sony and Samsung of similar size and price range. Hands down this was the best of the three.
Picture detail when viewed with high def is truly amazing and breathtaking. Although I still don't feel totally immersed in the scene (since smell and feel is lacking) I do believe that I feel more involved.
Even at the normal setting the color is crisp. While I did do some changes to the setting it didn't deviate too much from the original settings.
Recommended?
Yes and no. I would recommend getting this if you do not want to break the bank on a more expensive tv. However if you have the money go with the new DLP tvs' I would recommend getting those because there less bulky and provide great detail as well. I am still happy with this tv though.
