Excellent Picture but be careful when purchasing
Pros
Excellent picture even without the HD. Sound is wonderful.
Cons
Screen is not perfectly flat.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Buy it. Just be careful about the flatness of the screen itself.
I love my Panasonic 36". I haven't yet set up the HD but am in no hurry to do so. The picture is so far superior to anything I have ever owned that, to me, it might as well be HD. Of course I will set it up before the Super Bowl.
The one and only thing to watch out for is the flat screen itself. Make sure that the screen is even; i.e. no dents or waves in the glass. The idea of a flat screen is for less glare. I do not find that to be true. I feel the glare from outside sources is the same as a curved tube, and if the flat screen is not truly flat in all areas of the screen, the dents and waves will show up and be a distraction.
One other thing to be careful about. This TV weighs over 200 lbs. If you buy it from an on-line etailer, make sure you can get it hooked up and lifted into place. I purchased mine from Circuit City so that I wouldn't have that problem. Also, if I had wanted to return it, which I did not, Circuit City would have been easy whereas an online etailer would have been nearly impossible. It cost me about $250 more, but I felt it was well worth the added expense.
