Read the Warranty!!
Pros
I have some older Panasonic recorders (no digital tuner) that work fine.
Cons
I agree with other reviews I have read - the DMR EZ48/485V is a LEMON!

This machine works pretty good for me - while it is working! But it freezes just too often - for no reason that I can see.
The first one I bought went right back to the dealer for a refund.
Set #2 was also defective so sent it to Panasonic for repair (owner pays the freight!)
Now the surprise, after paying $300 for a brand new unit with a one year warranty, that warranty provides for you to have it "repaired" by replacing it with a "rebuilt" (in Mexico) unit -- with a 90 day warranty!!
That rebuilt one was no different about freezing every other day, so exchanged it again. I now have the 4th unit, have paid out $45 for shipping, this last one is still not working properly and they don't reply to my e-mails any more.
