The one caveat-LA85

Pros Picture, long battery life, lightweight
Cons Sound on loud jets
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Get the noise cancel headphones and you'll be in heaven
Everything which has been said about this unit being the great toy of this era is true. There is, however, one thing to be mindful of. As loud and crisp and perfect as the unit sounds when you use it a standard environment with a standard pair of walkman style headphones, you are in for a shock when you take it on you first jet flight (which is why I bought it in the first place). My wife and I used it with a $3 splitter from Radio Shack and two sets of headphones. One pair was the in-your-ear headset from an old Sony discman while the other was a really old pair of foamed over the ear walkman headphones. With the volume all the way up, the in-the-ear phone worked, but just barely, and the over the ear set was inaudible. We were right over the wing on a 777 and jet noise was just too much. What does this mean? It means you need to invest in a pair or 2 of noise canceling headphones. I just purchased a pair of Aiwa headphones for $40 off the internet. They block out about 70% of low level noise. Havent been on plane yet, but I tried them out with my LA85 while I sat in front of my AC at home with a fan on high and they worked quite well. They're also much more comfortable than those in your ear things.
