The Bottom Line:
I think if you can find it for the price you are willing to pay this player is hard to beat.
I did all my comparison shopping online - there were many rave reviews for Panasonic portable DVD players - especially this one. I had originally decided on a 7" screen - - - am glad, now, that I bought this one - the 9" screen is great. I am not sure I would have liked a 7" one after seeing this one. Also this prices for this model appeared to be $450+ but I clicked on Circuit City's link (showed it at $600+ and to my surprise it was (including shipping)only $374 (September 2004). That clinched the deal for me.
I went ahead and ordered the extended battery, that conveniently clips on under the unit from B&H photo (has Panasonic one for $120 or so and substitute one for $89 - which I bought). Including battery it fit nicely into my briefcase and has been a great reliever of the usual boring flights. I used noise canceling earphones on the plane which, I feel sure, helped the sound quality - and was very pleased.
The picture is really spectacular and with headphones you are "wired" into the whole movie experience. It only provides one headphone outlet but adapters to make it possible for 2 viewers are easily obtained at Radio Shack. Thus far has played all DVDs readily.
I am ** very ** pleased with this unit.
