Panasonic makes the best portable DVD players

Pros Great screen, form factor and good controls. Very high-quality unit.
Cons None
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  This is one of the best portable DVD players you can buy. Well worth the extra bit of money. Great screen and ergonomics.
This is the third Panasonic portable DVD player in my family over the last 5 years and I'm very happy with our choices. Before buying the LS50 I tried a Toshiba and Minitek players and hated both.

The LS50 and LS55 are the same model, just packaged with different batteries. I bought another battery so I now have both the standard and the long-life one. The standard battery gives me about 2 hours of play time, which is sufficient most of the time (I watch 2-3 movies a week on it on our company's 45 minute shuttle ride). The extended one is huge and gives you 7-8 hours. I've only used twice on airplane rides.

THE SCREEN:
* Excellent quality with great detail and good viewing angles.
* Adjustability is fantastic thanks to the unique mounting in the middle of the back of the screen.
* There are no trails behind fast-moving objects.

THE SOUND
* I had to try several kinds of headphones with this unit to find ones that had high enough volume. I believe that's partly due to the fact that the sound from the player's output is not loud enough at the highest volume.

THE CONTROLLS
* I think all the controlls are well laid-out and thought-through. One minor complaint that I have is that Enter/Select action is performed by pushing down on the multi-way switch. Just like with most such mechanisms, you would sometimes accidentally push it to the side right before the Enter engages, making you choose the wrong entry.
* It would be nice if the controls had back-lighted labels. To find controls in the dark environment I have to tilt the screen so that it shines onto the controls.
* The player allows you to see the time remaining in the movie, which is a great feature.

I've been using this player for about a year now without any problem and I like it a lot.
