Good unit, but...
Pros
Loads of features for a bargain price.
Cons
Progressive scan output may not be usable.
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
An excellent choice - if it works with your TV. Who thought that copy-protecting the video output was a good idea?
I chose this DVD player because of its small size and feature selection - I wanted a progressive scan player with component video output that was a size and style match for my new Aquos LCD television.
It's a nice looking unit; very small and thin. It comes with basic cables and batteries for the remote; the owner's manual is light on information but sufficient for the casual user.
It performs well, playing not only DVDs but also CDs, MP3 files, etc. with aplomb. It'd be almost perfect - except:
Buried in the owner's manual is a note that the progressive scan output will only work with televisions that support this unit's copy-protection scheme. Other than briefly mentioning that their own TV's may be usable, there is no information given on what sets can be used or what the copy-protection method is or requires. I quickly discovered that my TV is not one that's supported - so the progressive scan feature is useless to me.
If the progressive scan feature was usable, then this unit would be a bargain at its price. However, if you share my experience and find that it can not be used in progressive scan mode, it's a rather expensive standard DVD player - many other units offer more for less money in this class.
