Great little system

Pros Sound Quality, size, price, features
Cons CD changer is noisy, unit is deep
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  This is a perfect stereo for anyone who is looking for a nice system, doesn't want to spend alot of money and is limited on space
I bought this system since I renovated my room, sold almost everything, which includes all electronics (except for my Sony Wega 23" LCD tv) and I needed to buy a small stereo for my room, but I needed something small but I still wanted a good quality system. So it was off to Best Buy for me.

I walked into Best Buy with those big carts and went into the Stereo aisle. I browsed around and they had so many small stereos it was hard to make a decision, I tested approximately 10 systems that they had in there, but the Panasonic SC-PM31 stood out from all the others. After testing out all the systems, I chose the Panasonic.

Opening the box: I opened the box, everything was neatly packed (typical Panasonic well packaged product) it was easy to take everything out of the box and to start setting everything up, I placed both speakers on the shelf, unpacked the unit itself and started setting everything up.

Setting the system up: Setting the system up is not very hard at all, it's slightly time consuming considering the fact that there are quite a bit of wires to hook up but it's not hard at all! Anybody can do it, as, everything is color coded, when you set the speakers up, just connect the red to the red, black to the black, gray to the gray and blue to the blue port, that goes for both speakers, easy as cake! Takes about 10 minutes, once you've done that, simply connect the FM antenna, connect the power cord, plug it in and your ready to start listening!

Sound Quality: I don't know how to put this, but the sound quality on this system is OUTSTANDING! The clarity of the sound is great, you hear all the detail in the music, thanks to Panasonic Bi-Amp, Bi-Wiring speaker system, the low and high frequencies are split up so that you get the most out of your music. The first cd I listened to in this stereo was Jack Johnson's In Between Dreams, the sound quality was so clear and perfect that it felt as if my ears were in Heaven! You can hear every pluck of the guitar, every note sounds beautiful, if you close your eyes while you listen to this system, you really think you are listening to a system that is much bigger and more expensive. The bass response is also very good on this system, there is definite thump, yet it is not overwhelming like many of the JVC systems out there. This is the perfect solution for an apartment, because, you do not have to worry about your neighbors getting mad because of the earth shattering bass.

Design of the system: Another thing about this unit that I really like is that it is so nice looking and all the controls are so well layed out. It blends in very well. It doesn't have a million bouncing lights that will make your room look like a club, it has a bright and readable display and has when you turn the unit off, there is no stupid blinking clocks of anything like that, it is just a blank display so it will not ruin your sleeping enviornment. I must admit that before you buy this system, make sure you have enough room wherever you place it as, this system is slightly deeper then others so make sure your shelf has enough depth or you may have a minor issue. No big deal though at all though.

Here are some of the specs:

160 Watts
5 Disc CD changer
MP3 capability
Tape Deck
Auxilary Jacks (for hooking up a DVD player, TV, Xbox)
Preset EQ settings and a Manual EQ
Remove
Bi-Amp/Bi-Wired
Detachable Speaker Grills
Clock
Programable Timer
Sleep Timer
30 AM/FM presets

In all, this is a very well made system, it's solid, nothing cheap about this system at all, everything works nicely. I would highly reccomend this over all the Sony, JVC, Sharp, Philips, and all the other brands out there because this is one outstanding stereo and a great choice!
