Great Camera for the Money
Pros
Ease of use, long battery life, convenient portability,anti-shake,nice photos that blow up well.
Cons
Need to be close to your subject in low light situations.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Panasonic was a pioneer company for the anti-shake feature and this camera is also VERY durable, but most importantly, picture quality is good.
I purchased this camera a year ago and spent $245 dollars for it when 6 mega pixel was pretty much the top of the line.
I previously had 2 Nikon digital cameras that never lasted more than 18 months before repair costs started building up. (Each of the Nikon digital cameras were different models & both had the exact problem with a flimsy battery compartment door. Repairs cost me more than this Panasonic camera!)
Since I felt burnt by Nikon, I decided I needed to research a different company altogether. I liked the idea of an anti-shake digital because as the mega pixels increase, so does blurry photos if you even breath while taking a shot.
I had purchased many products by Panasonic over the years which included TVs,telephones, and microwaves. (I still have & use daily my original Panasonic "The Genius" microwave from the early 1980's !!! I never had a problem with it & it has been a workhorse for me.) So I decided to look at Panasonic's cameras. The reviews I read were pretty good & since I trusted this company, I decided to purchase an FX3.
I can say, so far, so good! I love it's portability and ease of use. Since it is basically a "point & shoot" it's a no-brainer. As with most digital cameras, you need to have good light to be far away from the subject you are shooting, and this one is not any different. But, it's a great camera to have in your pocket (I carry it in my bag all the time, as you never know when a photo opportunity will arrive).
The battery lasts a LONG time. I rarely recharge it, and I take hundreds of pictures a week. I also love the way movies come out. Get yourself a 1 or 2 GB memory card, and you're all set. (If you're traveling, have another memory card for back-up in case your memory card goes bad on you...this happened to me during a once in a lifetime photo op. (On vacation, shooting foliage in late afternoon on a very colorful autumn day, in a place that I won't be back to... lost the photo-op entirely).
Due to technology roaring past us, this "year old" model's current price is so reasonable now that I would truly recommend purchasing the FX3.
