Great basic MP3 and WMA player, great sound.
Installation was a breeze, but finding the hardware for the DIN bracket was a bit tricky as I had to go to a few places before they had any in stock.
I also trust the Panasonic name as I have a 3-disc changer that's about 10 years old. I assumed the sound coming out of the head unit would be similar to the stereo.
Overall Design
A somewhat complex interface, you definitely need a manual to operate this thing. It's not too easy to learn to use, but once you get it, the basic functions are easy to recall. It took me about 3 weeks to get familiar with it. In terms of display, it's quite beautiful with its jewel-like knob and red/blue contrast.
Use
I love the front-loading feature as I find it more user friendly than to have to flip down the face just to insert a CD.
The remote is convenient for summertime outside use or for passnger use. Since I accelerate quickly at times, it's better than trying to reach over to access the controls.
You can turn off the display light, though it's hard to see on sunny days. As for sound adjustment, the EQ modes are quite simple - select from 4 of them. It has a removeable faceplate for security.
Sound
The sound is superb! Much better than my OEM "audiophile" unit. It is much crisper and clearer, better distinction between the mids and lows. It also has built-in subwoofer controls so I can make the car vibrate. (I play a lot of electronica and drum & bass music.) The "vocal" setting also helps to amplify speaking-CD's (i.e. CD books)
Conclusion
While the unit satisfies me, it's only for the moment. I know in the future I will be replacing this unit with something better. For the interim, I'm enjoying the MP3 and WMA playback, burning endless CDRWs with about 12 hours worth of music.
Also considered ($200 range)
Alpine - too costly for a replacement
Sony - odd designs
JVC - small small buttons
Most of them did not have subwoofer controls for the price range.
