Bulbs NOT a problem
Pros
Great picture quality. No burn-in. Good sound quality. Very light in weight.
Cons
Blacks are not the deepest - that's the nature of LCD projection though.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Great picture, good sound, wide viewing angle.
I have had this tv since February 2003 (nearly 3 years) and we watch it a lot (at least 2 hours a day). I have not had to replace the bulb yet. However, I believe it may have to do with the fact that I run it through a UPS - a battery backup, rather than just a surge protector. A good UPS does voltage regulation as well as keep the fan running to the bulb after a power failure (old building - my fuse blows if someone runs the toaster AND the coffee maker simultaneously). A decent UPS costs under $100, and the battery in it lasts 2 to 5 years, depending on how it's taxed by the local current fluctuations.
The picture quality is the best of the LCD rear projection sets I saw, and I did a lot of looking, at different stores. Also, it does not suffer from burn-in from 4:3 shows, which are still in the majority. I could stretch the image, but I hate the way that looks. High def programming from my cable company is nothing short of stunning. Sound is amazingly good. Fan noise is not audible. I think that has to do with the size of the speakers that are built in. Good viewing angle side to side, somewhat less up and down.
It is much slimmer at the top than at the bottom, so I was able to put it in a space that was shorter than the entire unit by having it a little forward of the opening in the cabinet. At the top it's only 7+ inches deep, whereas at the bottom it's around 16 inches deep.
This all should also apply to the PT-45LC12, which is essentially the same unit just 5 inches larger.
