Clarity minus some color...
Pros
Clarity, Clarity, Clarity! Did I mention Clarity?
Cons
Horrible blacks...
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Buy it. The reviews all hate the black levels, but you won't really notice it once it's not next to another TV.
I really can't recommend this TV enough. Honestly. I've had friends with other HDTV sets that are amazed at the text clarity on my set. It's not without flaws, however.
There's no contrast control because it's an LCD, so you modify "contrast" by changing brightness levels (and lamp intensity). Blegh.
The blacks are non-existent. They all blend into each other until you can't see anything. Horrible on dark night scenes...other than that it's a dark night scene, so you wouldn't see too much more anyway. It's livable, and barely noticeable, unless you know what you _should_ be seeing. In my opinion it's more than made up for by the beautiful resolution.
Did I mention this TV is crisp? Wow.
And it looks incredible with the matching base.
Audio was barely used (receiver etc instead) but seemed adequate during first month.
Had to have a replacement because of dead pixels (and a faulty lamp). Replacement has six or seven dead pixels as well, but they're spread out over a large amount of screen estate, so they're not at all noticeable...even when you know where they are.
