Be careful when considering LCD TVs

3rd service call in 5 months!

I purchased this TV 5/10/05. Today I called to have service on this TV for the 3rd time in 5 months! First time, 3 months after I bought it, problem was a defective bulb. 2nd time, 2 months later, the service tech didn't really determine the cause of the problem (push power, it flashes green 8 times and turns red, never powers on) but replaced the bulb anyway and got it working. The service tech mentioned that he makes a lot of service calls on LCD TVs for bulb and/or ballast problems. This is not limited to just Panasonic.
Now 3 weeks later, it's not working again with same problem. This time however it smells hot! So far Panasonic has stood behind their warranty for me, providing in home service. I would encourage anyone experiencing problems to call Panasonic directly at 800-211-PANA(7262). They gave me a case ID which they track and when I called them this morning I was told they had initiated a new service program for this TV.
I'll update this when the service tech comes out again.
