DON'T BUY THIS TV

byabuci Jun 3, 2003
Pros Picture Brightness in Bright Room is Great, Light weight TV. High Definition picture is great.
Cons Expensive optical light box$2000 out 2x on my TV. Replacement bulbs$425 out already also.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Below average due to repair cost, frequency and replacement bulbs.
Figure one bulb a year. So your buying new $425 TV annually. Can't buy bulbs anywhere except Panasonic. Panasonic couldn't even send me directions for bulb installation at first. . . it took them 2 weeks because they renamed bulb part number but didn't change the directions in their manual. The Bulb was on back order which tells me a lot of people are replacing it. By the time I got bulb, my TV was out of warranty. Then Get this! after I replaced bulb the $3000 Light box went out a few months later. The Panasonic repair specialist pleaded my case to the Field represensative who was nice and authorized repair. I got the light box fixed. Now unbelievable part . . .4 months after that repair was made, I heard a horrible sound and no color now . . . TV Broken again. The Panasonic specialist picked it up next day and called me to tell me it is the same optical light box again that went out that was just repaired. Repair Specialist stated it is out of warranty even though the light box was just replaced under warranty originally less than 5 months ago. I AM SERIOUS!! When I contacted the Panasonic customer service in the past it has been horrible. The Panasonic specialist who has fixed my TV has been wonderful . . . Thank Goodness and he is going to talk to the Panasonic Field representative again for the second time. I will let you know how it goes.

I have waited my whole life to buy a good TV, I saved up money and did a lot of research and figured DLP was way to go. I am so Upset with this Television. It is a LEMON and Panasonic doesn't care. It has been in the repair shop 2 times with in 6 months. Good luck getting someone who is even familiar with DLP television to work on them. With repair cost and cost of bulbs I don't think it is worth it. Don't get stuck with new technology like I did; you will get burned.
