After buying 2 large big screen TVs for my friend Eric's new house, I ended up buying a Mitsubishi and Panasonic. Without any doubt, the Panasonic PT-61HX40 was just a purely incredible TV. It ran along side with the Mitsubishi TV that I have purchased. Anyways, after spending a couple of weeks at his house, here's what I found with the Panasonic PT-61HX40:
Price:
Without any doubt, I think that the Panasonic PT-61HX40 puts "best" into buy. $3100 was just a purely incredible price for this TV. It has virtually everything you can imagine coming with it. It's alos HDTV compatible, I saw an RCA (hence the quality) 32" TV for $3200! I only got the Panasonic PT-61HX40 for about $3100, the TV is just purely high quality, it was an incredible buy.
Warranty:
Again, from the store we got a 1 year parts&labor warranty. Same thing as the Mitsubishi TV that we bought. I'm not too sure what the actual warranty is on the Panasonic TVs, but it'd be a great idea to check on it. All TVs come with warranties though, and I found Panasonic and Mitsubishi to both be reliable and trustworthy with their warranties.
Installation:
Installing the TV was pretty much easy. Took a few minutes to install, the delivery guy installed it. For re-installation, there was a detailed instruction manual. Installing the Panasonic PT-61HX40 is quite easy, just about anyone can do it. I find Panasonic, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, and Sony TVs as the easiest to install TVs, they are all very similar in construction and their ports.
Sound:
The sound was very good. There was a surround sound option with the Panasonic PT-61HX40. To me, the sound on this TV was stronger than that of the Mitsubishi TV that I purchased. It's virtual surround sound affect was almost perfect, or too good to be true. The sound was always clear, and surrounded the room with fabulous pitch and bass. The bass was purely exceptional, it was very strong and well timed. There is no need for external speakers for this TV, the sound is just great as it is =)
Video:
The video quality is also great. The contrast is very bright, and is only slightly brighter and well mixed than that of the Mitsubishi TVs. The contrast was great, and the pixels blended in very well. The Panasonic PT-61HX40 is also HDTV compatible, that can take your TV to the next level of entertainment. I have seen the HDTV add-on in the store on the Panasonic PT-61HX40, and I can just tell you that it was amazing!!! It almost gets to the level of Sony, the video quality on this TV is almost as good as that of Sony.
DVD Quality:
The DVD quality is just great! We hooked up a Sony DVD player to the Panasonic PT-61HX40, and we got very good effects from it. The video was just perfect quality, and the sound was crisp and smooth. Hooking up a DVD player or anything else to this TV should be no problem, all the ports are located in the rear of the TV, closer to the side of the TV, they are easy to reach and to plug in. I really suggest you buy a DVD player for the Panasonic PT-61HX40, you will NOT be dissapointed!!! =)
Navigation:
I personally found the navigation and setup on the Panasonic PT-61HX40 much easier than that of the Sony KP61-V80. There is a circualr analog pad for crusing the menu. It makes life a lot easier that way, and also the menu is very intuitive. Navigating through the Panasonic PT-61HX40 is a piece of cake! Nothing to it! =)
Other Nice Features:
The Panasonic PT-61HX40 comes with a screen sheild built in. That is now standard on most top-of-the-line rear projection TVs. It's a great feature if you have younger children, it keeps the VERY high quality but delicate glass screen under it in perfect condition.
There are wheels on the bottom of it that make mobility over hard floors easy. It's a feature that's standard on most large big screen TVs. It makes life a whole lot easier.
The HDTV compatibility is ALSO great... And for the price... It was just unbelievable. I have seen much smaller and worse quality TVs going for higher prices that this that were HDTV compatible. This is just a feature that I didn't expect to be getting... But it's just so PERFECT. You really should buy a HDTV reciever for the Panasonic PT-61HX40, it's very well worth it. The effects you get are great!!!
The Verdict:
Without much doubt at all. This is a great TV! The price and the features!!! You will not be dissapointed with it! The quality is also incredible! Panasonic is trusted name. Even though this TV still doesn't get to the level of the Sony KP61-V80, it's still a GREAT buy considering everything you get with it. Don't hesisitate to buy this TV if you see it, trust me, you wont be dissapointed.
