Panasonic=quality/excellent performance. I bought another exact same one.

I would buy this again (I did). Panasonic made VCR's rate among the best during this technology era.
Had this unit for around 10 years. It has performed admirably under all circumstances. I originally bought this because of the Panasonic quality name/reliability and it has payed off.
I just replaced it w/another one (found on the local CraigsList) for less than $15.00. And this one was primarily used for playback only (hardly ever used on timer recording).
My PV-8451 finally bit the dust with a weird problem. It started to record in "spanish" (even though the SAP program indicator was on "english"). Panasonic service persons say it was probably a timer-board malfunction. It just started to play-back timer-recorded tapes in spanish? 10 years is a long time and I am satisfied.
The programming is fairly easy but you do need the remote. The remote, while busy with many buttons, is not cumbersome (like some univ. remotes). I will say the SLP pix was getting a little hazy (but still very acceptable). The SP was almost flawless. Most all pre-recorded tapes (movies and such) were almost flawless. Even the hook-ups were easy. I will say the HiFi stereo was a little shakey (guess that might have been more of a "source" problem. But overall this unit gave me my money's worth. Hopefully, I get the same production from the one I just purchased. Seems the owner took even better care of it than I did mine.
I didn't hate anything about this VCR. Outside I wished it could have gone another 10 years. But I am not that bitter. I found another one and I plan on keeping that for awhile.
