An excellent value!

Pros Easy to set up, Commercial Advance and Movie Advance.
Cons Instruction manual not very friendly, too easy to hit manual tracking on remote.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  A great value based on the features you receive!
I recently purchased a Panasonic PV-V4612S to replace a JVC unit that only lasted a year before it ate one of our triplets' videos. Although it's gotten a lot of use with three year old triplets, I felt it should last longer than that. I researched, and found that lo and behold, Panasonic gets one of the highest ratings for reliability, while JVC...you guessed it....rates near the bottom for reliability.

Loaded with this, I went to my store equipped knowing which brands I would steer clear of. When I saw this unit, I was convinced that while it wasn't the most inexpensive (Hi-Fi units can be purchased as low as $60 these days), I felt that the extras on this unit were worth the value.

First and foremost, this unit is very easy to set up - simply hook up cables prior to plugging it in for power, and it takes off on its own, identifying and memorizing stations, and even setting the clock. Many stations are even labeled (Ex: TNT, TBS, etc...). Other features include Commercial and Movie Advance, where the unit skips over commercials on recorded shows, and past the previews on pre-recorded tape, VCR Plus, One Touch Recording, and a universal remote.

Two main drawbacks I see with this unit:
1) The instruction manual, which is difficult to use, and 2) The manual tracking buttons on the remote are the same as the volume buttons for the TV, which make it way too easy to get the tracking off (especially in homes with small children). This is a nice feature, as many VCRs only have Auto tracking, but it would be better to have this button on the main unit only, and not on the remote.

All in all, I feel this unit is a great value, and would recommend it to anyone.
