Pros Low price, excellent picture and sound quality, commercial advance, features, expected...
Cons Could look better
Recommended it? Yes

The VCRs are getting cheaper and cheaper as other electronics do. At the same time, they get new (or previously expensive) features. The Panasonic PV-V4612 is an excellent value at less than $100.

It has a feature that makes viewing time shift recordings so much more pleasurable -... Read full review »

Panasonic PV-V4612S: Could have been a contender.

Pros Commercial Advance works well. Excellent value.
Cons Uncomfortable remote control. Many features are poorly implemented.
Recommended it? No

Overall, B- grade. Some nice features, but many other features are poorly implemented and the remote is unwieldy. Video quality appears to be comparable with my second VCR, a Magnavox, circa 1995. Considering the price, the VCR is an excellent value. More details follow:

An excellent value!

Pros Easy to set up, Commercial Advance and Movie Advance.
Cons Instruction manual not very friendly, too easy to hit manual tracking on remote.
Recommended it? Yes

I recently purchased a Panasonic PV-V4612S to replace a JVC unit that only lasted a year before it ate one of our triplets' videos. Although it's gotten a lot of use with three year old triplets, I felt it should last longer than that. I researched, and found that lo and behold, Panasonic gets one... Read full review »

A very good VCR at a low price

Pros Feature-rich for price. Smart commercial skip and movie advance features work well.
Cons Noisy when rewinding, remote needs improvement, rejects some tapes, lasted only 2 years.
Recommended it? Yes

I'll start out with my impressions of this VCR, which are generally positive. For a quick-reference of my rants and raves, jump to the end.

I began shopping for a new Hi-Fi Stereo VCR when my old VCR, a mono Zenith model, began eating tapes. The Sony SLV-N88 was actually my first choice... Read full review »

Pros Commercial>Advance, Good Video Quality
Cons Lousy user interface, Sluggish deck handling, Programming interface absurdly stupid,...
Recommended it? No

I was shopping for a VCR with Commercial>Advance?. I usually buy RCA for this feature, but they've been cutting the VCR line and it's getting nearly impossible to find a dealer that carries any selection. I came across this Panasonic model, and (many years ago) the Panasonic brand (used to be)... Read full review »

Pros Commercial advance feature. Price.
Cons Extremely noisy when running. Tuner degrades picture sharpness & intensity of white...
Recommended it? No

Our first disappointment was the obviously degraded picture. This was seen when just viewing the picture using the VCR tuner. The recorded picture was even worse. The unit made a very annoying hum-buzz noise when recording or playing back -- presumably the heads spinning. It is amazing that a VCR... Read full review »

Noisy VCR

Pros Commercial advance
Cons NOISY, LP speed has scratchy image.
Recommended it? No

My Panasonic PV-V4612S was purchased at Circuit City in Aug 02. I like the color (silver; better visibility, matches my TV) and the remote (good feel, AA batteries, easy access to FF/Stop keys). I also like the display which shows time when not in use as well as if a tape is loaded. The commercial... Read full review »
