Pros Excellent picture and sound in S-VHS and VHS modes, fast rewind, commercial advance
Cons Flimsy construction, lame color scheme, no front S-Video input, noise in S-VHS-ET mode

My JVC HR-S3600U SVHS VCR started developing color problems, so I decided I needed a new VCR. I needed a S-VHS-ET VCR, because I have S-VHS and S-VHS-ET recorded tapes and because after using S-VHS, regular VHS looks blurry and lacks detail.

Pros Excellent picture quality in S-VHS mode at SP speed
Cons Picture quality in lower quality modes is lousy and build quality is suspect
Recommended it? No

The Panasonic PV-VS4821 is a low-end S-VHS VCR that compares favorably to other VCRs made today, however it was very disappointing to me mainly because I just had higher expectations of a "Super" VHS VCR.

Cons Poor layout of remote, poor interface, poor playback of pre-recorded tapes

I needed to replace my present S-VHS machine after it had problems ejecting tapes. I looked for what was available in Canada and came up with JVC and Panasonic.
