The Bottom Line:
Buy this hi-fi. Excellent sound and features, excellent value for money. Beware of angry neighbours who complain about their pictures falling off the wall! Highly Recommended.
I'll begin by saying I've only had this one day! You may think I'm not qualified to write a decent review on something I've only had a day, but sadly, I am. I've had the 630's little (older) brother the 320 for the past year and a bit and the only major difference is the addition of a 160W subwoofer. That's the major difference. The rest are smaller but make this a better hi-fi overall. What first attracted me to the 630 was the look. it's clean, crisp and uncluttered by weird futuristic shapes and angles. It's modern. If I want something that looks like it traveled back in time to the present day, I'll wait for that time to come. While not as radical looking as its predecessor, it stills looks neat. Then there's the Bi-amp/bi-wiring system. This means that although the bass can be as heavy and loud as you want, it won't drown out the higher frequencies such as vocals and guitar solos. This is what I like about this system. The overall sound is balanced, i.e. one doesn't drown out the other. I like the addition of dedicated buttons for MP3 CD's such as album search, etc. The CD doesn't skip as it used during heavy bass passages. Vibrations caused this from the two side speakers. Now the bass that caused this is played through the sub, which I keep on a separate shelf. It's working so far but the real test will be when I play Vertigo by U2! Tried tuning my radio using automatic presetting, which turned out to be an unqualified disaster! It's not because the tuner didn't do it's job properly, it's because it did it too well! It's either so sensitive that it picks up every radio signal in the area or there's just way too much frequency out there. Either way it used up my 15 allotted presets for FM before I got all the stations I wanted. The solution? Use Manual Presetting, which is slower but gives you more freedom. Aux input is as good as expected. The one major non-rectifiable fault is the 5-CD changer, which is still slow and noisy. Someone complained about the bass being too heavy even with subwoofer and heavy bass turned off. I don't think so. With preset EQ set to "soft" you can have it as quiet as a stereo a third of its size. Reviewer said he plugged out the sub? Just as easy to turn it off on the hi-fi or remote. I'll end on a positive note, as I'm very happy with this hi-fi overall. Very handy to be able to select a track or station number from the remote as opposed to continuously pressing the skip track button.
