It takes bumps well and has ok sound

Pros Good for car use, comes with a remote controller, button lock feature
Cons Buttons difficult to operate without seeing them, not good for jogging, car adapter not included
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  This is a good unit someone who doesn't need top quality sound but who will jostle it around.
Problem
I had a portable CD player in my car, but when frost heave season began recently, I couldn't go three miles without it skipping.

Solution
I picked up the Panasonic SL-SX430 unit at Best Buy, and I am happy with it. Its got some good features but it also lacks some features.

On the plus side

* It doesn't skip in the car. I've hit some bad pot holes, driven over miles of washer board roads, and driven over countless other kinds of frost heaves with nary a skip.

* It comes with a remote, which is very useful since the cubby hole I have put the unit in is awkward to reach whenever I want to skip a song, pause it, or whatever. Plus, the players buttons are not distinct from one another (see more about this below). I have velcroed my remote in a handy spot on the dash.

The remote controls skip/search, play/pause/stop, volume, and the equalizer. It also has a clip which would hold onto a shirt pocket nicely.

* Both the remote and the unit have hold switches. These switches lock the buttons. By having activating the hold switch on the player, I can toss something on top of it and I won't accidentally turn it off.

On the minus side

* It wouldn't be great for jogging. I gave it a good shake before putting it in the car, and it did skip a couple times with vigorous horizontal shaking and when upside down.

* The sound quality is mediocre. Oddly, the remote degrades the sound. With the remote, the quality is about on par with the cheapo $20 unit it replaced. I expected better from a $45 unit.

* It doesn't come with a car adapter.

* The buttons on the unit are all level with the surface. This makes it difficult to differentiate between the buttons by touch. The remote, however, is easier to work by touch.
