Good MP3 CD player with few things out of place
Pros
sound quality much better than the others that i had.
Cons
Replacement batteries (availabitlity and their cost).
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
A good player, my only concern is the replacement rechargeable batteries HHF-AZ01 and their cost.
A detailed review (by someone else) can be found at the following link : http://www.epinions.com/content_116213452420
I intend to only point out those things that are either an exception in my case or probably missing out of the other review.
Pros:
1) To start with, sound quality is good.
2) I was able to play MP3s CBR, VBR, 64Kbps - 320Kbps.
3) Battery life is quite good.
4) Plays the TDK disks that i bought at Costco, and the cheap 12x Pioneer disks (the ones with amber coloured top) that i bought at Frys,(both are CD-Rs). Also plays the cheap Dysan disks that i had from more than 4yrs ago.
5) The battery charger is built-in, just hook up the player to the supplied acadapter.
Cons:
1) I have US version, that came with ear buds, sound quality is good enough to not criticize it but they they tend to hurt after long periods of use ( 6+).
2) I find that the cord length is too short ( both the ear bud to remote and remote to the player), I usually leave the player on my desk while keying at the keyboard ( i am a s/w developer) and always manage to either hit the player or pull the ear buds out, this happens atleast 2/3 times in every 10 mins.
3) The backlit display on the remote never lit up, looking up on the net i found out that other people were having the same problem.
4) The skipping begins after extreme use,In my case after 8+hours of continuous use the player began to skip every few seconds ( almost 5secs).
5) The replacement rechargeable batteries stated in the manual are priced $17.95 USD on the panasonic's website ( no information about whether its for each batter or for a pair). This player requires a pair. Maybe there is a different compatible type of battery from some other manufacturer.
6) I cannot fastforward or rewind *within* an mp3, I have some mp3 which are over 2hours in length each, in such a situation i cannot position to the point where i turned off the player.
7) Pausing the player leaves the disk spinning every few seconds, a bad idea to do so especially when the player is in pause mode since it takes up the battery charge.
8) The builtin ram size is unknown so I dont know how much of a buffer it has, *DONT* expect that this player will read a song completely, buffer it in memory and stop the spinning of the disk. I have found that even with smaller mp3 files as big as 2MB, this player spins the disk every few seconds. Though it spins the disk every few seconds it still manages to keep the song running smoothly without any glitches or artifacts.
But for the price i paid i am quite happy with it.
