Still not perfect

byasxx Apr 19, 2004
Pros Battery backup, dual speakers, decent sound.
Cons No Weekend mode, CD has no last-position memory, sleep in 30min intervals
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Very decent alarm clock but needs few improvements.
It's probably the best alarm clock on the marker right now in around $100 price range. It sounds very decent, even has some kind of surround expansion that actually works neat for music. Dual speakers are very nice touch. It has battery backup as every alarm clock should have but somehow a lot of them don't. It has all necessary features to work as an alarm clock.

It has few sad drawbacks though. I don't know why Panasonic missed on them, as all of them are quite obvious. CD transport never memorizes the last position, after you stop it, it will start from the first track again (although it does have ability to set track number for the alarm to start from.) Sleep mode works in 30 minute increments - should have been down to 15 or better 10. No fade-in (gentle wake.) No calendar and therefore no Weekend mode - you'll have to remember to turn the alarm OFF on Friday and ON on Sunday. I'm not sure that I'll always remember that... Second alarm can only be buzz. It's probably technological, as it would require separate memory for setups. I don't particularly like that many buttons on the side - it makes it impossible to set the times not looking at the side of the unit.

Oh well, nothing is perfect.
