Yes
I jumped at the chance to purchase the Panasonic SC-DK3. I spent much of time shopping online for the right stereo shelf system when mine stopped working. When I found out that Panasonic offered a system that not only offered a 5 disc DVD changer, Dolby Digital Encoder, as well as the standard features of a shelf system I got excited. Sure, it was about $100 more than any other CD player I was looking at, but the features seemed to make it worth its price.
When it arrived, I immediately connected everything. There are outputs on the back for an input source(say, from a VCR), and there are S-VIDEO and regular video outputs. A few things I noticed at first, for one the front speaker cord is built into the speaker, so don't think you can use your own wire. If you don't like the amount of wire they give you, then there's not too much that can be done. The sound, all 400 watts of it, is just as impressive as it seems. I put Braveheart in the dvd changer and could tell what a difference the extra wattage paired with the dolby digital decoder can do.
However, after further usage, I learned some things that the product pages don't mention. For one, if you own CDR's or other burnt CDs, forget about being able to play them on this system. For an unknown reason, burnt CDs won't play. Also, the clock and timer can only be controlled by the unit not the remote, so to set the timer or to even view the time one must walk to the stereo and control it from the unit(which can be a problem when it is used in the bedroom). Furthermore, there are no digital optical inputs. The remote is also a bit awkward, but that is due to the amount of keys that must fit on it to control all the aspects of the system.
Other than that it's great. The sound quality is excellent, the tape player works well, the tuner is also good. The DVD player itself works just as well as my previous one from Sony. In conclusion, if you're looking for a compact system that is powerful and takes the place of many components, go for this system it is not a let down. However, if you like to use your own speaker wire or play burnt CDs, or are planning on using this for a serious home theatre setup, then look elsewhere.
