Panasonic SC-HT335EG-S Theater System

This mini system may be discontinued by now. I remember first seeing it at the electronic store for about $1,900.00 for the main system alone. I purchased mine for $500 with the surround speakers from J and R late last year. This systems claim to fame is its ability to play DVD-audio. Since it seems like DVD-audio is a dying format, all I find myself using it for is DVD movies. I bought this system originally because I was moving into an apartment and felt I shouldn't take my big system with me. Mostly because of the complaints my 18 inch Velodyne would get and the space I would need to set the system up. So into storage my system went and out came this Panasonic system. For the price I paid for it, it is a very decent system. Anything more and I would rather put together a cheap system with a receiver, DVD player, and speakers. This system has 5.1 outputs for connecting an external amp. But if it was only that simple... the system can't control the volume for the external amp, so you would have to connect it to a receiver. Hence, if you hook up an external powered subwoofer like I did, you would have to use the speaker wires to the high input of the sub, otherwise you would have to change the volume of the sub every time you change the volume of the system. Oh, did I mention you can only use the sub output for 5.1 edited DVDs. After straightening out the subwoofer issue, everything else seemed to work well. My only other issue with this system is the volume. At full volume, the system is still not very loud. I find myself thinking about upgrading my system all the time.
