What it is
The Panasonic SC-PM18 is a small stereo system with radio, tape player, and a five-CD changer.
The Sound
The sound quality of the SC-PM18 is amazing for its size and price. There are three sound presets (soft, heavy, clear) that enhance certain frequency bands, as well as the Super Sound EQ which enhances the bass and treble bands. There are two drivers, which are amplified separately and connected with separate wires.
The Controls
The controls on the main unit are very simple, but you cannot control everything from the unit. For many features, you need the remote control. It has buttons for playing and pausing the CD, a button to use the radio, and a play button for the tape. The volume control is a knob with numbers that appear on the display. It has buttons to open/close the CD trays and tape deck and to exchange or check CDs. The display is large and easy to understand.
The CD Changer
The CD changer is not like any I have seen before. It has five numbered trays stacked on top of each other. The trays are covered by a door which is pushed open when the CD player opens. You select a CD with the numbered buttons on the front. When you push open/close, that CD's tray opens. When you press exchange, it displays a prompt that asks you what CD to open. If you select a CD that is not playing, the CD will continue to play while the other CD is open. There is a great feature that I have not seen anywhere else. When you push CD Check, it cascades the trays so you see all of them, except the one that is playing.
The Radio
The radio reception is great. The unit comes with an FM wire antenna and an AM loop antenna. There are ten presets on the remote control.
The Tape Player
The tape player is great. It is on the top of the unit. It is fully electronic, so it can be controlled from the remote control. It can skip tracks like a CD by finding pauses on the tape, which is a very useful feature.

The remote control is very easy to use. Everything you can do from the unit, except for opening and closing the CD trays and tape, you can do on the remote.
