The Bottom Line:
If you want a good compact cd player that you can jog with get this just make sure you don't drop it.
The Panasonic sl-ct580 portable CD player is a great CD player despite it being very flimsy.
I was looking for a new cd player after my previous Panasonic broke, since it was still under warranty I brought it back to the store and got a refund. I was very pleased with my previous Panasonic so I decided i would stick with them. When I first saw the sl-ct580 I noticed it was extremely small compared the current crop of cd players. I also found out it was the lightest player on the market weighing a mere 134 grams or roughly the weight of 2 chocolate bars. The Panasonic also had more features than the comparable Sony and it was also 30$ cheaper.
Features:
The unit comes with a four preset equalizer: Live, s-xbs, train, and normal. I found live and s-xbs to be the best of the bunch. Buy a good pair of headphones and you will be amazed by how good this thing sounds.
The antishock on this player as with all Panasonics is top notch i can jog with it and never miss a beat.
The unit has a number of play modes including repeat, random all the ones you would expect. There is also a memory function that allows you to choose the songs you want to listen to with out pressing the skip track button.
The sl-ct580 also plays cd/r/rw without a problem, which means you can listen to your home made cds a plus.
The player also has very good battery life 56 hours with the included rechargeable batteries and the AA battery adapter, which screws on to the back of the unit.
Cons:
Because the sl-ct580 is so light and thin it could be easily broken. I have drop mine about 3 times it still works but i know one more will just send it to the graveyard
There are a few very minor design problem with the unit: The volume push buttons on the side of player are not placed logically, to turn up the volume you would have to push the bottom button. It makes no sense. It is also kind of hard to push the volume buttons. Those problems however are very minor and will in no way make you want to return the player.
Panasonic has always made the best CD player. Do not buy a Sony over Panasonic they are more expensive for a lesser amount of features.
