Several years ago my son was given a Panasonic Shock Wave CD player for Christmas. His unit very sturdy and held up under all the abuse an eight year old could subject it too. For two years the unit went through it's paces without a single problem. One day my daughter decided to listen to music while she doing something in the bathroom and accidentally got water inside the unit. Well I'll tell you water and the Panasonic do not mix and the unit died.
Based on the great history we had had with the Panasonic Shock Wave we decided to get one for my daughter's birthday present. To make it even better we were able to get it through the Diner's Club points program at no cost.
This is a GREAT portable CD player. The basic unit is a classy looking yellow, black and silver design with matching headphones. The unit runs on either two AA batteries, loaded through a door located inside the unit, or an AC adapter. The AC adapter is included with the unit and attaches to the back of the body. There is also a jack for a pair of external speakers. We purchase an inexpensive pair or powered speakers. The audio quality is poor using the speakers but we're talking about a seven year old.
All of the unit's controls, except the volume control, are located on the top front of the unit. Controls include ski forward and back, start and stop buttons, memory recall and a repeat button.
The best feature of the Panasonic SL-SW505 Shock Wave is the 40-second delay. With this delay you NEVER hear a skip when listening under any circumstances!
While this unit is not cheap it is high quality and I would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a great portable CD player.
