WHY I CHEATED ON SONY...The Panasonic Shockwave CD
Pros
Anti-Shock Memory, Program function, Extra Bass System
Cons
No Radio, Entry level headphones
Recommended it?
Yes
Fot the last ten years I have been a loyal sony fan. I have a Sony stereo, Sony tv, Sony walkman but that all ended when I went searching for a portable CD player. I happened upon the Panasonic Shockwave SL-Sw505 Portable CD Player by accident. I was actually looking for a Sony CD player but when i went to my the store they were out of the Sony model I was looking for. So, begrudgingly I tried Panasonics Shockwave. I am loyal to a fault, you see I won't change barbers unless they leave town or die. Once I am familliar with something I stick with it but that all changed once I tried out the new love of my life. This epinion will focus on features of the player, sound & style quality, and general comments.
1. FEATURES:
I was looking for a player that would meet my needs. I wanted to use the player in the car and in the gym. The Panasonic Shockwave SL-Sw505 Portable CD Player offers that and more. The Shockwave is water resistant with a durabledesign that they describe as a dual lock system. It comes equipped with Anti Shock Memory II which means that the player reads the audio data and stores it in memory up to 40 seconds. If you encounter interruptions via bumps or shaking the player, then the stored data is played during that time. The player is also equipped with XBS (Extra Bass System) which I enjoy because it gives you that extra kick in the bass pants. The model I have included Stereo Headphones which are basic but do the job. They are the headphones that you do not plug into your ears so there is some separation from the music and you. It also has a pop up disc ejection system which is convinient for lazy dudes like me. The player does not include a radio but there is a model which does but it costs about $60.00 more than my player. The player also has the basic functions of rapid forward & backwards, and skip forward and backwards as well as memory/recall and a repeat function which allows you to program the player to only play certain songs.
2. SOUND & STYLE:
The player sounds great. I listen to mostly rock'n'roll and you get a good bang for your buck with the Panasonic Shockwave SL-Sw505 Portable CD Player especially when you use the XBS. It is a crisp sounding player with the right mix of trebel and bass and you don't have too turn up the thing to 11 to get the most out of it. In the gym I turn it to 5 or 6 and that usually drowns out the noise without blowing out my ears. In the car, it is a different story because you sound is based on your car speakers.
As for the style, it is almost octagon shaped and mine is blue with black trim, it looks like a mini ufo but it is sleek and substantial. It doesn't feel like it is made of cheap plastic and all the main functions are set out clearly. I like the digital read out section which tells you how long length of the CD, tells you whether XBS is activated, and the song number. The player easily fits into any CD player carrying case so if you use it at the gym you won't have to hold onto it.
GENERAL COMMENTS:
The model I got does not come equipped with the car adaptor but you can step up a model and get it included, you can also add to the player in terms of headphone quality but the ones it comes with do the trick. I love the memory function which allows you too program the player and it comes in handy if your tired of a song or can't get enogh of one. As for the Shock Memory it works! I have found the player to be durable as i have dropped it a couple of times and it keeps on ticking. The dawbacks are that it doesn't come with a radio. I like that feature because it gives variety but you can step up a model and get it. I just wonder if it is worth the money.
Overall, I enjoy the player. It is easy to use, sounds great and it has opened my once closed mind. I guess there is life after Sony!! Who woulda thunk it????
