The Bottom Line:
Price, sound, and ASM are what make this player what it should be. Great deal for anyone.
This is basically my first venture into the world of portable music. I was looking for a decent player of some sort to play my tunes on. I looked at Mini-disks, MP3 players, and CD players. Based on how much I needed and how much money I had, I decided on the Panasonic SL-SX270 CD player.
First of all, the price is right. Some of the better MP3 players I looked at sold for $250, at the minimum. That wouldn't go down too well with my budget. I saw that the SL-SX270 had good reviews and the price was great. The $70 paid was well spent.
The ASM, which is Anti-Shock, works perfectly, no problems. 40 seconds should be more than enough for most people to use at home, commuting, and during mild excercise. I shook it for a good 45-50 seconds before any really noticeable skips sounded.
The four main buttons and well as the three smaller ones with the Anti-Skip is excellent. The functions are easily performed when pushed. Learning the layout is very simple. You can reach into where the player is and press the button you want, or use the remote.
The remote comes in handy when jogging or in any other situation. The remote has Play, Stop, Next Track, Back One Track, Hold to stop the buttons, and Volume. My only problem with the remote is the lack of an LCD display. Maybe that's a little too picky, but I would like one on the remote.
The battery life is amazing. I have been playing CD's for hours each day and the player is still using the same pair of batteries. You should get some rechargeable batteries and a charger to save money and help the animals. The only thing wrong is in the manual, it states that the Anti-Shock uses more power, but later in the manual, it says that the Anti-Shock lasts longer than without it, odd. Must be a typo.
And of course, the main factor is, how is the sound? I am happy to say that the player sounds great. There are only two EQ settings besides normal, S-XBS (Bass Boost), and Train. The S-XBS give music the "oomph" that people are looking for. The train EQ is totally useless. It just messes up the sound, I don't know what it's supposed to do. The headphones that come with the unit are OK, but should be replaced with better ones. Most MP3 and CD players come with crummy headphones so no points are deducted. Basically, sound is great.
This is a awesome product from Panasonic that people should look into when purchasing an CD player/
