Great Mp3-Cd Player for Less $$$ but there is better

Pros Price, Ease of use, Sound modes
Cons Skips, No Display but time, Cheap headphones, Load times
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Cheap, skips when jostled, plays mp3s, but for $50 get it as a beginner's mp3-cd-player
The Panasonic SL-SX420 is an 'ok' Mp3 Cd-Player. It was actually my first Cd-Player which I used for at least 6 months so far and I am still using it, for cds anyway. I recommend switching to a low-cost Mp3 Player as an alterative.

Price

For ~$50 you can't find a cheaper mp3 cd player (Unless you do...) in which case I'd recommend that one. The SX420 does have its problems

Ease Of Use

Yes, it's a pro, and a con almost. Theres not much you can press but Start/Stop, Stop, Change track, and mode. Simplicity... Pure simplicity. No radio or anything. No displaying what song you hear... Its Entry-Level.

The Display and Capacity of it

With this cd player and a proper burner you can fit 1000s of songs or 1000s or sound clips onto a cd. To problem is you might have to make a list of what song it what. There is no display except for a number and the time on the cd player. If you have 200 songs you probably wont remeber what song 129 is unless it is written down somewhere.

Sound Quality

I have no problem with the sound quality since I do not listen to music that is meant to be 'blasted' or anything. If you want to listen to your music really, really loud then this isnt the Cd-Player for you. I listen to my songs at about 15-17 which is a resonable and low volume. The player only goes up to 25 which is less than many people 'need it.' The cheesy headphones that come with it dont help.

Battery Life

The Cd-Player uses 2 AA batteries that last a fairly long time. Depending on the volume level you'll most likely get an average of 10 hours out of it. The little battery meter is one of the few things to be viewed on the display and rates the battery life on a scale of 1-3.

Skipping

Skipping is an issue with the SX420. The first 4/5 of a cd are usually good no matter what. Sometimes, usually uncommonly, a song wont play. I've only experienced this problem with burned cds. Even if a cd has minor scrathes the last songs may refuse to play or they may skip for periods of 40 seconds or more. Dont worry about skipping too much if you take good care of your cds.

Loading

Each song has at least a 2 second pause before it starts standard + load times. If you have a 1000 sound clip cd that you want to play continuously, it will take a while to load the whole thing. Then again, its a cheap CD player and all things take time. This isnt a large issue.

Conclusions

As a first Mp3 Cd Player or a first cd player in general the SX420 makes the mark with a satasfactory grade. It has a lot of power for only $50.
