Panasonic SL-SX510

Pros Size, Accessories, Sound, 'Look'
Cons Fragility
Recommended it? Yes
Panasonic has outdone itself this time. A marvellous unit. All the Panasonic full sound (if you like a lot of bass), in a small package. Compares favorably with the Sony D-405 and JVC XL-PG5. Some of the pros include;

1. Size. Sheer size. Sleek, small, slim, lightweight. Much smaller than Sony D-405, and JVC XL-PG5. Lines up with more expensive models like Sony D-805 and D-777 in slimness. Just on sheer look it tends to sell.

2. Accessories. Rechargeable AAA batteries included, built-in battery charger, extra battery case (even though it's REALLY fragile) and a wired-remote control. If you don't like the earphones that come with the unit, you can still use the remote with any other earphones/headphones, from any other company. Unlike the Sony remotes which require the microchip insertion on the remote (which tends to 'SNAP' off quite easily), Panasonic and JVC do not use this kind of technology and are more reliable.

3. Sound. You get the fullness Panasonic S-XBS sound. No VMSS, but why tamper with a good thing?

4. Ease of use. Controls are visible and plain to use. Similar controls, features as other units.

5. Shock Protection. 40 seconds of shock protection. A lot of protection, kind of the standard now. I think that it is excessive.

Some of the negative aspects of the unit include;

1. Fragility. Small in size, but if you drop it ... Some complain that it is TOO small.

2. Headphones/Earphones. Not the greatest. Kind of a letdown, as Sony includes the GROOVE earphones with their D-405.

3. AAA Battery use. Sure the manufacturer claims X number of hours but is it true? Is that why the flimsy battery pack is included?

Anyways, all in all a GREAT unit, even though there may be some negatives. Among the non-Sports/non-Shockwave units, this has to be the best mid-range price unit on the market for the money. It makes an outstanding present, as it is practical, low cost, and has a very 'smart' look to it.
