Panasonic SL-SX281C
Pros
Good battery life. Lock out for front panel controls.
Cons
Supplied phones. Noisy car unit.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Overall a good unit. Resistant to skipping is great unless you jog.
I have now gone though my first set of batteries with this unit. They lasted about 16 hrs which could have been extended if I could have used the supplied ear plugs. These appear to have been designed by a Star Trek fan because they would only fit a Ferengi ear. They are too large to fit in the ear so they move around and you loose the "sweet spot" easily. Try jogging and they fall out.
I resorted to using a set of Koss TD-60's which are so inefficient the volume must be cranked up to max (25) as opposed to the supplied phones (8-11). Battery life suffers, but at 16 hrs. I am happy.
First purchase....a real set of headphones.
I should mention I bought this in Canada. The specs show a different part no. for the U.S. phones. These may be OK.
I got the car kit. It performs as expected except the cassette unit is quite noisy. It sound like a cheap tape that has had too much use. If you play your music *loud* it would be ok.
Second purchase....a Radio Shack adaptor (12-1999). Quiet.
It may sound like I do not like it. Actually I do. The ear plugs sound good with the right placement. It sounds great with headphones. I am being picky about the car kit, it may not annoy most people. It is available without the car kit which is the way I would recommend going.
The low battery warning comes on about the time the unit quits.
