Good for 16 days only. Then it breaks down. No replacement will be given

My Panasonic TH42PZ700A was delivered on 29th March 08. By 14th April it had broken down (ie 16 days) and will take at least 2 weeks or more to repair.
Panasonic refuses to replace it and the retailer (Powerhouse) says they too won't replace and I have to get Panasonic to do it.
Panasonic says that if it breaks down in less than 21 days it is considered DOA. Dead on arrival.
Imagine that! They actually have a term for it.
So... just how often does it happen for Panasonic to have a term for it?
Go figure.
