Great camera, but....
Pros
Good sharp pics, easy to use
Cons
Spotty performance at 28mm setting
Recommended it?
Yes
I really like my Pentax 928. Good sharp multicoated lens delivers contrasty, flare free pictures. I have been disappointed with the lens' performance at its widest 28mm zoom setting. I get vignetting at the edges of the slides I shoot and sometimes the corner details smear out of focus. I called Pentax customer support and they acknowledged the problem with the explanation that it's hard to put the perfect zoom lens in such a small package. They're probably right.
If you're accustomed to tack sharp detail at the edges, you might want to take a proven lens along on the trip. If I could spend my money over again, I would purchase the IQ Zoom 140. It goes from 38mm to 140mm. I have taken pics with this camera and the performance is outstanding at all focal lengths.
I understand Pentax is coming out with a new version of the 928. It will be interesting to see if the new version has the same problems at 28mm.
