You can't go wrong with the ZX-50

Pros Ease of use, affordable
Cons Lightweight plastic body, pop-up flash
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  The ZX-50 will provide ease of use as well as excellent quality images. It's a great camera.
INTRO
My wife and I were searching for a camera that would be as easy to use as an aim-and-shoot, yet take photos that were almost professional quality. Thankfully, we decided on the ZX-50.

I had always been a little leary about autofocus cameras because I owned nothing but manual focus cameras since 1987. I was the one that wanted to be in control of the exposure, focusing, etc. After using the ZX-50 a few times and seeing the quality of the photos that were taken with it, the camera officially became our aim-and-shoot/vacation camera.

THE GOOD STUFF
This is a starter's dream. Simply slide the knob to "PICT" mode and you are shooting like a pro. Hold the shutter button halfway down, wait for the in-focus beep, then press shutter button all the way to take the picture. Auto advance means you'll always be ready for the next photo op. If you are the type that likes the date on your photos, you can do that by turning the date function on. Want to get in the picture? No problem, the self-timer can make that happen. The ZX-50 can also be used in the traditional manual fashion, of course.

Our ZX-50 came with a 35-80 wide angle zoom, which is suitable for just about any kind of situation. If you are just starting out, it's perfect. Other than that there aren't a lot of other features, at least those that would appeal to a beginner.

THE BAD STUFF
What I don't really care for with the ZX-50 is the plastic body. I know most cameras now are made of plastic, but this one is extremely lightweight. I'm afraid to subject it to any kind of stronger-than-normal shock unlike my wife's Pentax K-1000, probably the best and most rugged beginner's SLR ever made.
