The Bottom Line: If you can buy this on sale and are looking to migrate to HDTV I'd recommend. 19" may be too small for some but sufficient for others. Built by Phillips.

Technically speaking this is a late model HDTV. I have 4 TV's in my home (that's probably 3 too many)and have been playing with the Analog to Digital Converter boxes. Those are indeed a challenge and decided that I would just start rotating out the tube TV's for HD's as I come across them.

In this case I saw the Magnavox on clearance at Best Buy from $400 to $240. As a replacement for a bedroom a 19" is more than you really need but about as small as you can get your hands on. The space I regained in the room alone was well worth it.

General: About as plain of a TV as you could ask for. Very functional, clean lines and easy to find and use control that are located on the top of the unit. The stand is silver vs. back TV case but is again very functional and stable. It also has a nice raised section in the rear so that your cords can be positioned for clean runs to the power source. Just keeps things tidy.

Picture: Unreal for the price. Without question I'd put up against a Sony at more than double the price. Keep in mind this is older HDTV standards 720p vs the newer 1080p but if upgrading from tube more than acceptable and I'd argue 1080p is overkill. If you spend that much time and are that concerned with picture quality then become James Bond yourself instead of watching it on TV! Plenty of control over contrast, colors etc.

Closing: This is simply a very good TV even at full price it compares very well with competitors. Its functional, does what it's designed to and a great alternative to converter boxes that also do their jobs but not as good.
