Nice unit if VCR hadn't failed
Pros
Good picture. Combo unit is convenient.
Cons
VCR failure. No "jump". Remote difficult to read. My universal remote will not operate unit.
Recommended it?
No
I bought unit in March 2004. In December 2004, the VCR began mangling videotapes. I would hear a noise, then the tape would be ejected and the entire unit would turn off. When I went to take the tape out, it was difficult to remove because some of the tape was still inside caught on something.
The labor warranty is only 90 days, and parts is 1 year. I called the Chicago service center per the instructions in the manual, and they referred me to a TV repair place locally (Denver). I called them, and they won't come to my house to fix a combo unit. I may call them back to see if there's another place in Denver that will make a house call, but am tempted to just surrender. I can probably live without the VCR, since I have two others. It's still annoying that the product couldn't even make it to one year trouble-free.
The unit was $350 at Circuit City, but I only paid $17 because I redeemed some "frequent spender" points on my credit card. That cushions the blow somewhat!
