The Bottom Line:
For the price, cannot be beat.
A value priced Philips? Are you thinking a bad quality product with those words? This t.v. is value, as in a good value, not cheaply made. I think this television is a decent product, as long as you are using it for basic functions. Its silver, and looks good in a living room. Its features include: analog presentation, built-in-tuner, and a excellent remote already prepackaged with batteries. The picture quality is as good as more expensive models, and it has a 3 line comb filter that will provide excellent clarity.(Especially while watching DVD's.) True, a plasma tv is much better for this, but costs MUCH more and is unproven technology.
The sound is pretty good, but no overwhelming. It has 2 five watt speakers, with virtual surround sound and MTS stereo capability. There is also a sound leveler so you can adjust it to where you like it. If you have little children, it comes with a VCHIP to provide you with parental controls on what shows you want in the house. Also, a great feature is its sleep timer, which goes up to 120 minutes. If you are worried about saving money, it is energy star compliant. It has an S-Video connector, and for output has a composite x 1. Also, it has a headphone jack if you have roomates or others in the house who want quiet.
For $209 this was a good deal, and with Philips reliability, it should last for 20 years. I have many Philips products, and have never had a problem with any of them. This is a good television, and will do fine as long as you are not looking for "state of the art." Its a buy, and it can be purchased at major electronics retailers. Sometimes this model comes with a $25 rebate, so check with your local store.
