The Bottom Line:
You won't find a better overall set for this low a price
I was a little nervous about this purchase after reading several less than positive reviews on the internet. But at $180 after rebate it was clearly the best value for this size/feature set at Best Buy, so I decided to give it a try.
I was looking for an inexpensive TV for the bedroom, with multiple inputs for DVD, satellite, video game, etc. I wanted as large a screen size as possible, with good clarity, bright colors, as well as good treatment of dark scenes. So far, this unit has met all these requirements. The remote is nicely laid out and easy to use. I also like the 16:9 expansion option for watching letterbox DVD's. The unit has several video display options (such as theatre, sports). I found that the manual adjustment option (personal) worked best for me. There is another nice option which automatically boosts contrast, depending on the scene, for a more pleasing picture.
I had read reports about poor sound quality, as well as an annoying high-pitched electronic noise. But my unit has no such noise, and the sound quality is good. (I'll be using surround sound most of the time, so it wasn't a major concern with me.)
I haven't found many negatives on this TV. The screen geometry is not perfect (lines not straight, especially in the corners), and on letterbox you can discern a very slight tilt to one side (perhaps one degree) - although for a TV in this price range I was not expecting perfection. I have a Sony which does much better with geometry, but it also cost twice as much. Also, I wish the TV had the option of labeling channels.
Overall though, I am quite happy with my purchase and its overall value.
