The Philips Fanatic...well, not really, but this is a good TV...
Pros
A lot of features, good horizontal resolution, nice inputs/outputs, digital comb filter.
Cons
TV has to warm up for approx. 10 seconds before it comes on.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
This TV is worth your money if it will fit. It is about 27" long horizontally, so measure before you decide to buy.
This is the revised version of my review of the Philips 27PT543S 27" TV. I'll try to make it better than the last one but I'm not guaranteeing anything.
It's all about the picture!
Yes, picture is a critical thing these days. I don't know the exact horizontal resolution, so I'm going to tell you with math. I'm usually sitting 3 feet away from the TV playing PlayStation 2 or if I'm waiting for the suspense in a movie usually about 6 inches away. Either way I have no problems with it's resolution. Of course you can't really determine from the first PlayStation because the horizontal resolution they put out is just plane terrible. This TV also some feature that enhances viewing on widescreen DVD's. All it does is stretch the picture vertically. I don't really care for that feature but I'm sure some people would say, "Wow, that's great!". And did I mention that this even has a 3 line digital comb filter?
The Ins and Outs of this TV
What do I mean by this you ask? The inputs and outputs of course! This has three RCA inputs, two in the back, and one in the front (Well, actually the side but the TV tells me front.). You also can sacrifice one of the back A/V inputs to work as a component video input. It has an S-Video input too, and I'm guessing bye bye another input. The third and final side one is RCA only. Now that I'm done with the ins, there is one out. It's and audio/video output although I don't know why they would want video to go out of the TV, I think that's kind of useless.
Future Features
Okay, so the features are already here in the present, but they're futuristic features. I think If I keep saying things like that I'm going to bite my tongue. So lets move on. There's a lot of things this TV has, so I'm going to try and keep it organized.
QuadraSurf - This feature allows you to store and view up to ten of your favorite channels per button. There are 4 buttons.
AutoLock - This feature allows you to block the feature of certain channels or inputs that you may not want your children watching.
Infrared Remote Control - This works with your TV set, and allows you to program features with the touch of a button.
Closed Captioning - This feature allows viewers to look at text on-screen.
Automatic Channel Programming - This is basically self explanatory.
AutoPicture - This allows you to change the contrast, tint, etc. from the one you set from the menu, to one's preset by Philips for certain things.
AutoSound - This is just like AutoPicture, except it changes sound.
Speaker Story
I don't really know much about the speakers as I use the audio out, but I did test them out once. They are pretty good for a TV it's size.
