Great sound. I hope it doesn't die like my old one!
Pros
cheap, good sound quality
Cons
not back lit, battery compartment annoyingly placed
Recommended it?
Yes
For those who have already read my review Philips AZ743317 (http://www.epinions.com/elec-review-74A5-17D5B96D-3847E038-bd1 if your interested.) You already know that it died. I was begining to wonder if I shouldn't start to but money aside for a new one since mine never seem to last for more then a year. I should have listened to my intuition becasue wouldn't you know it, less then a week later it died.
I had just started saving to be able to move out so I needed a discman, I needed it NOW, and I needed it cheap. I visit to the local Wal-Mart didn't leave me with much hope of getting a cheap one as the least inexpensive were $60. Then I had an epiphany. The internet! I found this one in Buy.com's clearance center for $32.95. Since I was a new customer I was able to get a $10 off coupon and shipping is free in their clearence center. The cheap was taken care of.
I ordered the discman on a Monday and I got it on Wednesday (that's what I call service.)The now was taken care of.
Now for the discman itself. It is smaller then most of the other discmans I've seen. Only about an inch tall and slightly larger then a CD so it will fit in your coat pocket. The controls are located on top which makes it a nusiance when I'm walking with my discman in it's waist pack. It has 25 second ESP which works nice. I doesn't skip at all when I run. It has three modes of direct bass boost. If your going to use the DBB I would invest in better headphones then the ones it came with because with DBB on level 3 the sound quality degrades quite a bit. With good headphones the low notes cause the hair on the back of my neck to go up. Levels 1 & 2 work quite nicely with the headphones that they included though. It comes with a power adapter and a car kit.
My only quible with this are the display isn't back lit which makes it hard to figure out which track a CD is on when I'm walking in the dark.
Only the battery compartment is located under the CD lid so you have to take out the CD to change the batteries (which can be quite a challenge when you're walking.)
I think this is a great discman and a steal at the $22.95 I paid for it. I'm not sure I'd pay the MSRP on this but I could easily see pay $50 - $70
