Smart, Very Smart

Pros Good size, built in VCR, frontal A/V inputs.
Cons Not stereo sound, rounded screen, no back A/V inputs.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  A great value, and worthwhile buy for the average TV/VCR user. Easy to use and install.
I enjoy my Philips/Magnavox CCZ19AT television/VCR combo unit very much. I got it as a self picked out present a few years back, and I'm happy with my choice. I actually bid on it at Ubid.com and got it for a very good price, under two hundred dollars! It was refurbished, but I can't see anything wrong with it yet, and I've never had a problem all these years I've had it.

The VCR built into it greatly simplifies any problems that non-electronic people may have. Instead of hooking up all the wires in the back of the unit, and organizing everything in your home entertainment center, all you have to do is plug this television in. It also eliminates the sight of all those ugly cables running out the back of your television.

With the DVD (Digital Video Disc) rapidly gaining popularity, one might think that a product like this is going out of date. I disagree, I actually think because of DVDs becoming more popular, it makes more sense to buy a TV/VCR combo unit and then buy the DVD player separately. This really cuts down on all the things you have to hook up and set up. I have a DVD player that I run right through the front A/V inputs, and it works like a charm. Unless you are a real video-phile (in which case you would have gotten a DVD player already anyways), the built in VCR is more then adequate for all your video needs.

The unit's flaws include that it only has the A/V inputs in the front, so you are forced to look at some cables if you add a component to it. It also does not support stereo sound, which doesn't really matter that much, unless again you are an audio-phile. The speakers don't produce great quality sound, and they are very little, but they serve their purpose. The VCR is a four head one, so that give VHS video playback a little better quality. The screen isn't flat like those sleek new Sony Wega televisions I see at the store, the edges are rounded and curved, so the picture on the television isn't the greatest. And a little bit of the corner picture is cut off. But it seems to be the same as every other "regular" good old TV that I see around.

The screen is 19 inches which is a great size for a smaller room. However, this does make the unit very heavy so be careful when moving it. The remote is very useful, with both television and VCR controls built in. This makes it very easy to use, as soon as I plugged it in, I was off and rolling. An all around smart buy.
