I recently purchased a Philips Audio Compact Disc Recorder and
I am very pleased with it. I shopped around before my purchase
and found that Sam's Club wanted about $100.00 less than
the area "Discount" Electronic stores. The blank discs come
in two types - Rewriteable and Nonrewriteable. The
nonrewriteable discs ($2.00 each at Sam's) cannot be erased
and copied over. Once you copy your songs onto the disc
they are there permanently. The bad aspect of this is if you make
a mistake you cannot fix it like you can a tape nor can you
erase and copy something else in its place. The
Rewriteable discs can be erased and copied over and you can
fix mistakes you've made during the copying process. However, the re-writeable discs can only be played on CD players that are CD Rewriteable Compatible.The Rewriteable discs run almost double the price (between $2.00 & $3.50 each).
Both types are the same size as compact discs and can handle
either 74 or 80 minutes of music. You can copy music into the CDR-760
either of two ways - analog or digital. If you use the
digital mode, the system you are copying from must be digital
and have digital connections. I copied from a basic JVC
CD Player in the analog mode and the quality of the copy
was virtually the same as the original CD master.
The CDR-760 is very simple to use, even less involved than a
cassette tape recorder. This is one of the best purchases I
have ever made! UPDATE AS OF 23 OCT 00: Have had the Philips over a year now and have made hundreds of discs with no problems whatsoever!
Also, disc prices have come down considerably to under $1.00. I had been using Maxell blank CDs but now prefer Memorex for lower cost and superior reproduction quality (strange as Memorex Audio Tapes were terrible.)
