Phillips Beta Test shouldn't have been released

Pros Has a digital output S/P-DIF, and is a decent player.
Cons Unable to record
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  At retail, FORGET IT, it won't record. As a player, pretty good for very cheap.
The usual good build quality, fine ergonimics. These guys have a different idea of what is good and right than the Japanese manufactures. No accounting for taste, eh? Bright display, good quality buttons, nice power supply, good transport, but it WILL NOT RECORD on the correct disks (expensive audio-tax-paid blanks). Lets talk about how nice it is as a player... It plays damaged disks with pretty good sounding output from an external d/a converter like the Adcom GDA-600.

This unit is not "broken" it just will not enter record mode.

Compared to the other Phillips recorders, this has got to be the worst. Other models seem to work fine.

Thank goodness for thrift stores and their "try-out" prices. I only paid $5 and consider it a good deal for a nice player. If I had paid $499.99, I would be mad.
