The Bottom Line:
Great product. Much better than DVD Recorder for daily recording use and for those who don't want to be hostage to cable DVRs!
The Philips DVDR3576H is the Bomb! I mostly record TV shows for later viewing and/or to skip thru commercials. Replaced my trusty VCR a few years ago with a Panasonic combo VCR/DVD Recorder. With DVD-RAM disk I could start recording a 1 hr show then play 20 min in and skip thru commercials while the rest of it recorded. That turned out to be so much better than VCR recording I fell in love. Then the DVD side died and I was hell bent in getting another one of the same, still had to have VCR capability for the wife. Couldn't find a VCR/DVDR combo with DVD-RAM compatibility anywhere in town, so I finally settled on this Philips. Now I feel like I was in the stoneage with the DVD-RAM recorder. First, capacity; the DVD-RAM disk was 6 hours, the HDD I set at a good quality (SP) is something like 80, can go alot more than that at lower quality which is fine for TV shows, I just like higher quality in case I want to burn to DVD. Second, programing is so much easier, and you don't have to power off to set timer. you can be watching a recording from yesterday and whatever you set for today will start recording. Plugged the Panasonic into the back of the Philips so the Wife can still watch VCR tapes.
