Recommended it? Yes
With my hundreds of MP3 files sitting unused in my computer hard drive, I longed for a device that would let me play my recorded CD's in a portable device that I could hook up to my car stereo. My car stereo (like most I found out) would not play my recorded CD's. When I saw the Philips EXP103, I was excited that I could finally play all of my MP3 files through my car stereo using the car kit provided. Now that I have the product, let me briefly review the product.

Features

1. Plays MP3-encoded CDs as well as audio CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs
2. New format called MP3 shock protection (100 seconds).
3. Plays all different types of bit rates which lets you record more songs on one CD.
4. Decent battery life of up to 10 hours.
5. Car kit, headphones and adapter included.

Performance

The Philips EXP103 performed flawlessly and delivered as promised. All of my MP3 files played without distortion or skipping. I was amazed at how great my MP3 songs sounded through my car stereo. I was expecting to be disappointed with the quality but was pleasantly surprised.

The MP3 shock protection works as promised and the music never skipped even when I slammed on my car brakes and sent the player flying.

I've had the player for a few months now and it has proved itself to be quite durable and reliable. It survived a fall directly onto my kitchen tile without damage or a scratch.

Drawbacks

You can't search within an MP3 file format but you can still skip tracks. Also, when you first put in a CD-R or CD-RW, it may take about 20 seconds before you can actually play it. It has to load the directory. Once it's loaded though, you are good to go. I also noticed that the LCD display is hard to read while you are driving in the car. The car adapter will only sound nice if you have an expensive car stereo, otherwise you may have to crank the volume on your stereo to get decent sound.

Overall

Since this is pretty new technology, I was extremely pleased with this player's performance. It delivered on everything it promised. I can't wait for this technology to improve. I definitely recommend this player for those that have a desire to play their MP3's through their car stereo.
