Pros Plays MP3s on a CD; Light; Cool
Cons No FF/Rewind within songs; No ID3 support
Recommended it? Yes

I've been thinking about MP3 players for quite some time. However, the ridiculous price for what you get ($200 for an hour of music?) always kept me off. I don't jog, so the "skip free" nature of RAM based MP3 players was never a big factor.

It occurred to me a long time ago that what the... Read full review »

Pros Light-weight, portable, holds a lot of music for the size!
Cons We may have paid a little too much! (The price has now come down.)
Recommended it? Yes

My younger son, Garrett, purchased a new Philips 8cm MP3-CD eXpanium Portable Player recently and is quite satisfied with it. This product is smaller than a regular CD MP3 Player and it holds songs in an MP3 format like a regular MP3 player, but you can store the songs on small CD?s, so it... Read full review »

I recently received the Philips Expanium Exp 103 as a birthday gift, after asking for a portable CD player for my daily walks. My husband thought to keep at least one trick up his sleeve and purchased a CD player that could handle both audio CDs and CD-R's of mp3s. My previous experience with... Read full review »

Pros Extremely light, and portable. Comes with everything you need.
Cons Headphones suck, and can only use in car with cassette player. Serial # disappears!
Recommended it? Yes

On the road again, a song that pretty much sums up my life. I have amassed a countless number of MP3's and got tired of having to cart around CD after CD to play in my car stereo or on the run. Not to mention that I am also a blues review writer (for a local tiny paper), and listen to countless... Read full review »

Pros Made by Philips, plays everything, battery life, accessories.
Cons No ID3 tag or filename display, fragile, controls on face.
Recommended it? Yes

I've been anticipating portable MP3-CD players for a long time, I already had created many CDRs full of MP3s that can be played on any computer on the network at home from a server. Mostly, the story has been players to be shipping next month, every month it is still 'next month'. I'll start with... Read full review »

With my hundreds of MP3 files sitting unused in my computer hard drive, I longed for a device that would let me play my recorded CD's in a portable device that I could hook up to my car stereo. My car stereo (like most I found out) would not play my recorded CD's. When I saw the Philips EXP103, I... Read full review »

Before you buy an MP3 player. Think about this

I was thinking about what category this review should go under and I wasn't sure if it would be portable CD or MP3 players. Let's get one thing straight. If you're going to buy a Discman, you should consider the Expanium. It plays CD's and has 100 seconds of anti-skip protection which allows for... Read full review »

Pros Plays wide range of bit rates and long file names.
Cons Not drop-proof and does not display long file names.

Of all the mp3 cd players available the Expanium is the nicest.

I have been wanting an mp3 player for well over a year. The types that only stored songs in memory didn't impress me because they were limited to what's in memory and thats it. I wanted more. When I first read about mp3 cd... Read full review »

Pros reads CD-RWs. Reads MP3s
Cons large, slow between tracks

I bought the Expanium basically because I wanted more music with me on the go. I had an MP3 player, but it's memory is too minimal so I decided to try a name brand MP3 CD Player. The Philips is the only current one out there, and it's only for sale at Circuit City and Amazon.com.
I also bought... Read full review »

Pros Cheap, high sound quality for the price, easy to use.
Cons Breaks somewhat easily, bad features.

I've been using the Philips 100 second "magic esp" cd player for about half a year now. I have already had to replace it once, and my second one is starting to act funny. However that I kind of expected based on the price.

It is really cheap, so if you're like me and you've got a ton of cd's... Read full review »
