Good Little Home Cinema Travel Pack
Pros
Home Cinema in a travel Pack; Easy to hook up
Cons
Low Power; Cables to Speakers are fixed length; only one AUX connection
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you want a cheap Home Cinema sound then this will work, as long as you're willing to stay within it's limit.
The reason for my purchase of this Philips Mini-Hifi System was that I wanted to get an All-in-One package and have a Home Cinema at the same time. Obviously I knew I was buying low-end, but convenience was my primary objective.
I must say I got that. It does do everything it says it?s supposed to do. However it does lack on the Cinema Sound side of things.
Let?s go over the components:
MAIN UNIT: Comes in an attractive package, albeit nothing to write home about since the minis pretty much all look the same. The buttons are easy to use and clearly identified. The Display looks good and is not overwhelming. You can dim it if you want by using a ?Nite Mode?.
REAR CONNECTIONS : That?s where more of the problems reside. This unit is sold as a Home Cinema unit YET it only offers ONE AUX connection. What?s up with that !!! I have a TV, a VCR and a DVD connected so in order to make it work I had to purchase a 3TO1 Box from Radio Shack. To me that is unacceptable. Plugging everything is easy and straightforward.
SPEAKERS : The system comes with 5 speakers so you can recreate a Surround Sound effect. Works well. Sound is good albeit only 80W Total Power. The problem are the cables. They are fixed in the Speaker Units thus the two front speaker are WAY too short. The two Surround ones are ok.
REMOTE : The remote is universal. Has a good design and fits well in ones hand. Very easy to use.
SETUP : The reason why I?m talking about the Setup is because of one thing which totally annoyed me. Balancing your speakers is not a user friendly task. The Left and Right Speakers are not obvious to balance since they can?t be balanced separately. You figure it out after a while but it takes some time and I wasn?t expecting that.
USER MANUAL : Is clear and friendly enough to use.
